Under an assumed name, Szerémy Ernő accepts a position as a music teacher at a young ladies' boarding school, - run under the auspices of his grandmother, - in order to get acquainted with a pretty student, Márta, who later turns out to be his cousin. Grandmother adopts Márta, daughter of her son, disowned formerly on account of his marriage, and upon Ernő's request agrees to the marriage of the two young people. Márta, however, is in love with Kálmán, colonel Örkényi Vilmos's nephew, while Ernő - whose emotions changed - has plans to marry Piroska, Kálmán's younger sister. The colonel, whose marriage to countess Szerémy was, in the years of his youth, prevented by the countess' mother, would not hear of these relationships. Bearing in mind the future happiness of the lovers, countess Szerémy eventually decides to make it up with the grumbling, embittered old man. (Verleiher-Text)
