Vincent (J. Komínek) is a peaceful lad fond of reading and painting – the complete opposite of his father (L. Vaculík), an ambitious retired knight who always feels the need to lecture his son, and even accompanies him on his quest to gain experience. On their adventurous journey, they meet an evil wizard, accidentally endanger the world of fairies, and must rescue a beautiful princess (L. Černá). (Finále Plzeň)

Der Film fängt sympathisch an, was aber nicht lange dauert. Jaromír Hanzlík ist auf seinen Schuft bestimmt nicht stolz. Seine Fans werden ihm aber wahrscheinlich nicht böse sein, weil sie ihn höchstwahrscheinlich gar nicht erkennen werden. Auch die jungen Haupthelden sind irgendwie fade (obwohl sie sympathisch sind). Ein bisschen interessant spielen nur Lukáš Vaculík, Jitka Ježková und Táňa Pauhofová. Die Idee Gewehre versus Kenntnisse war gut, das Märchen hätte aber mehr Humor gebraucht.

This year has been especially atrocious. Czech Television should consider whether, instead producing several consumable fairy-tales every year, which out of inertia households will put on simply because there’s nothing on anywhere, it wouldn’t be better to produce only one fairy-tale every other year, where they would invest more money and creative forces, and which would be watchable, maybe even several times. But if a new one has to be made and nobody has the balls for a different kind of Christmas movie…
