Dr. Szabó Péter, a busy head surgeon, forgets that it is his wife's birthday today. He returns from work tired, and is in no mood to join the company invited by Mária, his wife. The couple have an argument. Mária feels her life is in a rut, while she is blamed by Péter for not being an enthusiastic housewife. Mária then follows her guests into a night-club, where she is thrown off-balance by Mohai, a suave pianist, who starts courting her fervently. The following day Mohai proposes to her. They go to the hospital together to inform Péter of their decision. When they arrive, they see Péter in the operating theatre, struggling for a patient's life. Mária is deeply moved by the sight, realizing the pettiness of her own problems when compared to the seriousness of her husband's work. She realizes that she is still in love with Péter, and decides to stick by him. (Verleiher-Text)
