Bible Hunters

In 1908 the Bible Hunters, Charles Freer, Chester Beatty and financier J.P. Morgan, set off to explore the Near East, searching for the earliest records of Christianity. They uncovered a range of early biblical texts lost for centuries, buried beneath the desert sands and hidden in the libraries of ancient monasteries. They had discovered hard evidence from the earliest centuries of Christianity - where the echo of Jesus' voice could be heard. But once the texts had been pieced together and translated, they transformed understanding of the origins and evolution of the New Testament and Christianity. The Bible Hunters had set out to find documentary evidence to affirm their faith and uncovered a very different truth.
