Unnachgiebiges Mobbing hat Lincolns Leben in einen wahren Albtraum verwandelt. Aber schon bald lernt er wahren Terror kennen, da er auf eine einsame Reformschule für Teenager in Schwierigkeiten geschickt wird. Die Qualen, die Lincoln hier erleidet, sind noch viel schlimmer. Doch diesmal wird er beobachtet – vom Geist eines Mädchens, die vor Jahren in den Selbstmord getrieben wurde. Lincoln setzt den Geist frei – und damit eine racherfüllte und nicht zu stoppende, dunkle Macht. (Tiberius Film)

Brassy! Really, a very nasty film that relies mainly on whether its intentional nastiness will be taken as a plus. Some Kind of Hate is about bullying and its consequences, about the hate that leads to bullying, and also about the hate that results from bullying. The lead character is an unsympathetic, sad loser who is so convincingly written and portrayed that it’s not surprising he’s the target of bullying. His bullies are unlikeable to the core and all the other characters that appear in the film are guilty of something. It’s a parade of psychopaths and annoying characters, so if you need someone to relate to, bad luck. But the biggest hit of all is Moira, an angry vengeful spirit. Thanks god for her! After the mandatory introduction (which could have been a bit shorter), she unleashes an effective, brutal and bloody horror ride. Mortimer has come up with some pretty original ways to murder people thanks to which Some Kind of Hate is an interesting contribution to the sub-genre of supernatural slashers, even without the social message. The film isn’t perfect, mainly because of the inconsistent pace (the first half is mostly about those unlikeable characters and at times is a little hard to watch) and several rather unconvincing twists (the arc of Kaitlin is rather weird). But overall is one of the most interesting horror films of the year, a distinctive and confident vision of a rookie director. The sequel teased in the final credits is something I’d like to see, Moira could easily lead her own slasher franchise, she’s got the potential for it.

"Some Kind of Hate" has a decent potential to be a horror film with social critique, but in the end, it turns mostly into rough horror entertainment, which has its positive aspect in the fact that it is quite gory and the wounds look really real. The finale is somewhat melodramatic, which I didn't like twice, but thanks to its roughness, it manages to captivate. However, for me, this film is ultimately still rather below average.
