Novák Sándor works for the Budapest division of a county's consumers' co-operative as well as a water polo trainer. In reality he is the archetypal survival of his age. Because of his business affairs he quarrels with both his one-time professor and his best friend. Yet his air of self-confidence and his quick and appropriate responses to different situations always help him get out of the trouble he frequently finds himself in. He loves his wife yet is indifferent to her job. When he feels that the world he constructed for himself is about to collapse, he pretends to have committed suicide. Bori finds it more and more difficult to adapt to Sándor's life-style, yet she is both unable and unwilling to change their relationship. How long can one live like this? - is the question they ask each other, with their faces cuddling together, at the end of the film. (Verleiher-Text)
