Recently jilted at the altar and fired from his job, 20-something Alan finds himself working as a tourist advisor at Dublin Airport. It's there he comes face to face with first love Alice, stuck on standby for a flight home to New York... Alan (28) works at the Tourist Information Desk in Dublin Airport. Alice is a American on standby in the airport. Eight years ago, Alan and Alice had a romance which ended badly. Now every hotel room in Dublin is booked out. Despite initial frostiness Alan offers Alice a room in his house to stay the night. They will spend the evening getting to know each other again. Both will tell lies about how well the last eight years have gone, however gradually, they will come to realize that perhaps they are more compatible than they ever were before. 'Standby' is about what happens when your twenties don't go how you planned. Its about falling in love, with a girl and a city again. (Verleiher-Text)

Englisch I’ve been to Dublin once and I would gladly travel there again. And I would gladly travel there for eternity. The city is really charming and that is why I could not miss this movie telling a story about a trip with a random reunion after many years. The result is exactly what I expected from this film. Nice actors, beautiful locations and one big disagreement with the opinion of the main character, who paradoxically works in an airport information booth but cannot think of anything to do in a city like this. Luckily, he figures it out and surprises not only his long-lost friend, but also me, because it reminded me of the good time I had in this city. ()

Englisch Such a fairly average romance that has everything a modern romance should have - a fairly ordinary plot, where two people meet, getting closer and experiencing some humorous and emotionally intense situations. But it has something that makes it slightly above average. And that is the characters that you enjoy watching. If this movie didn't have that, not even Ireland could save it. You won't see much of it anyway. ()
