Zunächst sind es nur Kleinigkeiten, die kaum jemandem auffallen. Bei einem Vortrag fällt Professorin Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) plötzlich ein Wort nicht ein. Wenig später dann verliert sie beim Joggen die Orientierung, obwohl sie die Strecke fast jeden Tag läuft. Die 50-jährige, die an der Columbia University Linguistik lehrt, ahnt bald, dass mit ihr etwas nicht stimmt. Aber die Diagnose ist trotzdem ebenso unerwartet wie erschütternd: Alice leidet an einem seltenen Fall von frühem Alzheimer. Ihre jüngste Tochter Lydia (Kristen Stewart), die sich in Los Angeles als Schauspielerin versucht, ist die erste, die bemerkt, dass mit ihrer Mutter etwas nicht stimmt. Beim Familienbesuch an Thanksgiving scheint zwar alles wie immer, nur dass sich Alice der Freundin von Sohn Tom (Hunter Parrish) gleich zweimal vorstellt. Doch auch aus anderen Gründen können Alice und ihr Ehemann John (Alec Baldwin) es nicht länger vermeiden, den drei älteren Kindern die Wahrheit zu sagen. Denn weil diese Form der Krankheit vererbbar ist, könnten sie auch ganz direkt betroffen sein. Anders als ihre schwangere ältere Schwester Anna (Kate Bosworth) lässt Lydia sich selbst nicht testen. Statt sich um die eigene Zukunft zu sorgen, will sie lieber für ihre Mutter da sein, selbst wenn ihr Verhältnis nicht immer das einfachste war. Ein gemeinsamer Sommer im Strandhaus der Familie schweißt sie enger zusammen denn je. Und als Alices Zustand sich zusehends verschlechtert, ist es ausgerechnet ihre Jüngste, die für sie die größten Opfer bringt. (polyband Medien)

While it's nice that the film doesn't overdo it with the hope and the whole thing feels like the last 20 minutes of Benjamin Button, but did I really seen a scene where Julianne Moore is courageously lecturing people about her illness, with a piano playing wistfully in the background, and the audience wiping away tears with proud smiles while giving a standing ovation? I'd probably take it in stride, but this is the year Blind made it to Czech cinemas.

Nice and naturally human, without sentimental outpourings or extremely cynical twists. Julianne Moore's performance is superb and she carries the whole story solely on her shoulders so brilliantly that we almost don't realise how mundane and unoriginal the movie is. Or yet another in the Oscar hatchery of "If you have a heart, watch, be inspired and love me" projects :)) 70%

Julianne Moore is absolutely captivating, even though I feel like this is just a classic movie that reeks of an Oscar, or at least a nomination. Of course, when you want to make a film about a person with Alzheimer's, you need a great actress. The selection here succeeded, and Julianne is incredible. The film has at least one benefit in showing how challenging it is to live with this disease. And that goes for everyone.

I didn’t expect it, but after watching this film, I can say that I was treated to an extremely strong drama as well as another absolutely perfect performance by Julianne Moore.I like the way the creators introduced Alzheimer’s disease. At the same time, I was saddened by what the disease did to the Julianne Moore’ character. Anyhow the only thing I can say that even though the ending made my eyes go as wide as saucers, in the end I was happy for it. It wasn’t what I expected but on the other hand it wasn’t gloomy or sad. I hope I will remember this movie when I’m retired. It won’t leave me alone for quite some time, I think. The same goes for the excellent Julianne who’s great in everything I’ve watched with her.
