Kung Fury

Kung Fury ist der blanke Wahnsinn mit einzigartigen visuellen Elementen und einem Konzept, das die einen von A bis Z lieben und die anderen hassen werden. Ich persönlich bin ungefähr auf halbem Weg dorthin. Ich schätze die künstlerische Gestaltung und den Ideenreichtum, der im Grunde keine Grenzen kennt. Eine halbe Stunde lang taucht man in eine Welt ein, in der Hitler, T-Rex und Thor aufeinandertreffen können und von allen Seiten 80er-Jahre-Atmosphäre ausstrahlt. Ein ganz besonderes Stück, das auf der Skala von 1 bis 10 des Wahnsinns eine stolze 12 erreicht. (13.03.2019)

A community-funded super homage and (heart/balls) breaking confession of love to the degraded VHS 80s through the pure essence (the music, the music!) of all their nostalgic guilty pleasure originality. If you know the video game Blood Dragon, then Kung Fury is something similar. The great thing about it is that during the footage the creators from Laser Unicorns (and also outside the footage go over-the-top in many ways. But what they do know is what the appropriate length should be so you will not get bored. On the other hand, there are so many ideas, references, craftsmanship, absurdities and quotes in every scene that it is still impossible to absorb during one screening even if you do your best, so, in fact, at the end of the day it will be as long as a feature-film. The first trailer got me all excited, but only after watching David Hasselhoff's music video did my expectations reach the highest possible level. And the result? Exactly as I expected - a total blast! It has its weaker moments, too, but there are so many absolutely awesome, absurd and already legendary scenes and one-liners that I didn't even manage to take everything in the first time. PS: I consider the first 10 minutes to be my absolute favorite, worth six stars. (30.05.2015)

Absolutely cool example that it is possible to shoot a high-quality film in front of a green screen even without a large budget. This shows that it simply can be done, but big studios will argue otherwise. But besides that, this film also has a great story, and I hope it can be turned into a feature film or even a series. Already when David Hasselhoff released a video clip to his song “True Survivor”, I thought that this was going to be brutal. After the release I did not hesitate and tuned into the wave heading towards nostalgia and a step back. A step towards the green screen which rules with an iron fist in this movie. Kung Fury is exactly what you dream about in your most secret thoughts when you remember any action movie from the eighties involving the USA and China. (29.05.2015)
