Der König der Piraten (2017) (S04E03)
A great episode until the pirates started doing some unbelievable things. The outcome of the naval battle made no sense to me — it was like watching a tank lose to a guy with a pistol. Similarly, the scene at the end where they charged into musket fire just didn't add up. Such a shame. ()
Eine feindliche Weltmacht (2017) (S04E05)
Planning and scheming took center stage again while the action stayed in the background. I don’t mind that at all, as long as all those discussions are relevant. An episode full of intrigue is far better than one with nonsensical action. ()
Tod und Flammen (2017) (S04E06)
Definitely one of the top three episodes. The creators expertly blended intrigue, negotiation, and meaningful action. Plus, they showed once again that they're not afraid to sacrifice a main character for the sake of the story. My only gripe was with the number of horses the Spanish managed to bring to the island, but overall, I had a great time. ()
Neue Verbündete (2017) (S04E07)
This episode took a significant dip compared to the previous one. Maybe it would have worked better for me if I weren't so cynical, but there was just too much mourning and tugging at the heartstings. The bold plans and Calico Jack's Philadelphia mission swayed me to give it 4 stars. ()
Die Insel der Toten (2017) (S04E08)
A slower episode, with almost nothing happening. Thankfully, the abundance of scheming and plotting kept things interesting. The storyline is gradually introducing Treasure Island, making it clear what's going to happen with the chest, though I'm still curious about how it will unfold. ()
Vergraben (2017) (S04E09)
Even though the episode was packed with action, something about it felt off, and I can't quite put my finger on what it was. It was like listening to a classical music concert where one musician occasionally hits a wrong note, but you can't figure out which one. ()
Licht und Schatten (2017) (S04E10)
WTF??!! I genuinely enjoyed this series, but this ending? I didn't expect the pirates to win, and I would have been upset if they had because I appreciate realism. But why did the creators turn the finale into an overly sentimental, cheesy disaster? I know what's trendy these days, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Just like I can't accept the idea of a Black man playing a Norse god, I can't accept an ending with a happy reunion of two gay men on a plantation. Back then, that would have likely landed them both in serious trouble. ()
