Die nahe Zukunft: England und China befinden sich im Kalten Krieg, ein geheimes Wettrüsten ist in vollem Gange. Ingenieur Vincent (Toby Stephens) steht kurz davor, für das britische Militär einen humanoiden, voll funktions- und lernfähigen Roboter zu erschaffen. Unterstützt wird er dabei von der jungen Wissenschaftlerin Ava (Caity Lotz), die allerdings vor Vollendung des Projekts ermordet wird. Kurzerhand speist Vincent die Scans von Avas Gehirnströmungen in die Maschine, um eine künstliche Intelligenz zu kreieren. Das unglaubliche Experiment gelingt: Wie aus dem Nichts erschafft Vincent eine Maschine, die ein eigenes Gewissen zu haben scheint und unzerstörbar ist. It should have been either smarter and more original, or sillier and more fun. But like this it’s mostly boring, unfortunately.

The whole time I was watching this film, I was thinking that even though it’s actually terrible, I still have to appreciate the enthusiasts who made it happen. But after an hour, I couldn’t take it anymore, I sadly admitted that this was bullshit and then switched to a much better program – Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. While it deals with an equally challenging topic, it manages to present it much better than the creators of this shit, which sure is imaginative, but very badly narrated and does not bring any new message.

Quite interesting sci-fi. It's nice to see something again about artificial intelligence and about the line between created and acquired. Can artificial intelligence have its own consciousness, its own emotions, its own thoughts? It's not that original, it's quite boring in places, but you can definitely watch it. Maybe if there was a slightly bigger budget for a more interesting visual side.
