Men at Lunch

Everyone has seen this photograph: 11 workers sit on a beam atop a skyscraper in the midst of construction eating their lunch. Men at Lunch sheds light to the historical context of the image. During the Great Depression and prohibition New York had become New York as we know it, filled with a mix of aspiring immigrants all looking for the American Dream. Many of them were gambling their lives on it. While hiring workmen it was taken into consideration that ten stories would probably require the death of one worker. The power of the image lies in the relatability of the workers. They look common, yet they've been elevated to a higher plane.
