Beth and Francis, a young married couple, are on holiday together when they venture to a beautiful, but highly remote, island. Beth is pregnant and the two are hoping to enjoy their last vacation before their baby is born. When they arrive, they notice that while there are plenty of children present, the adults all seem to be missing. Initially attributing this to the after effects of a recent festival, they quickly realize something far more sinister is afoot. The two will face terror and unsettling difficult decisions in their quest to make it off the island alive. (Verleiher-Text)

Come Out and Play it’s not that bad and it doesn’t stomp very much on the heritage of the original from Spain, but I don’t see any reason for this remake; it’s awfully pointless. Who Can Kill a Child? is not a film with special effects that would look aged today, and Makinov doesn’t bring in anything innovative, so there’s zero originality. The unsettling atmosphere of the sunny island of murderous kids that made the original famous is well recreated here and there, but it never captures the intensity of the terror. I’m giving it three stars, though it’s still a candidate for the most pointless horror film of the year.

Dieser Film hat einen ähnlichen Aussagewert wie das hiesige Punktesystem. Unklar und ein wenig unnötig. Schwer zu sagen, was Makinov dazu veranlasst hat, den spanischen Klassiker neu zu interpretieren, sodass seine Version genau gleich aussieht, jedoch ohne jegliche Neuerung (die paar abgeschnittenen Köpfe und Opfer zählen nicht). Das Original hat mehrere Jahrzehnte überlebt und erfreut sich immer größerer Aufmerksamkeit, nach dem Remake ist jedoch schon nach einigen Wochen Ruhe eingekehrt. Ein bisschen schade, wenn ich die rohe Kamera und das Gefühl der Realität berücksichtige, das einem unter die Haut geht.
