Eine Frau wurde auf bestialische Weise in einem Fahrstuhl ermordet. Einzige Zeugin des Verbrechens ist ihre Katze. Asian ghost horror has vanished in the last few years, not completely, there are always a couple of films popping up, but there aren’t any projects that would reach a wider audience, like The Ring, The Eye, The Grudge or Shutter. After watching The Cat (no, I won’t use the original title :-D), I’m pretty sure that we will still have to wait some time for another gem that would reach somebody other than a couple of obstinate fans. I have mixed feelings about The Cat. The jump-scares are effective by the most part – one of them actually almost made me sick (I don’t like it when something nasty breaks into my oasis of safety, the bed). The problem is with the plot and the script. A ghost pissed off without any reason (according to what cliché was the murder committed?), the reliance on coincidences to a greater extent than I’m willing to accept, the convulsive development of the plot… For me 6/10, I will at least remember a couple of those jump-scares.
