Auf einer Party werden sechs Filmstar-Buddies Zeugen katastrophaler Ereignisse, die den Weltuntergang ankündigen. Während die meisten Partygäste flüchten, bleiben die Kumpels einfach im Haus. Doch schon bald gehen die Vorräte zur Neige.
Alles beginnt mit einer Party im Haus von James Franco, die gerade auf ihrem Höhepunkt jäh unterbrochen wird. Denn James und seine Kumpels Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen und andere bekannte Filmstars werden Zeugen von katastrophalen Ereignissen, die L.A. in Schutt und Asche legen und so vom Weltuntergang zeugen. Während die meisten Partygäste flüchten und damit in ihr Verhängnis laufen, bleiben die sechs Kumpels einfach im Haus. Doch schon bald gehen die Vorräte zur Neige. Hoffnung keimt auf, als Emma Watson vor der Tür steht. Doch die Apokalypse in Form von Dämonen ist unaufhaltsam. James und seine Freunde beschließen, das Haus zu verlassen. Dabei erkennen sie, wie wichtig echte Freundschaft ist.

Ein Film, dessen lustigster Moment der ist, wenn Michael Cera Rihanna einen Klaps auf den Po gibt. Die Jungs haben sich ausgetobt. Der Spaß, den man mit ihnen in ihrer "realen“ Gegenwart auf Dick-Seiten erleben könnte, und die ehrliche kritische Selbstreflexion hätten das Potenzial, eine coole Unterhaltung zu sein. Dazu bräuchte man aber ein ausgefeilteres Drehbuch. Es wirkt so, als ob es die Autoren spontan an einem Abend geschrieben und es sich nochmal erst am Set angesehen hätten. Das Casting ist nicht alles. Der finale Penis-Dämon und der Song am Ende sind gut :-)

Das ist das Ende ist eine Komödie, die durch die Schauspieler, die sich selbst spielen, und eine große Anzahl von Parodie- und WTF-Szenen aus der Mittelmäßigkeit herausgeholt wird, aber auch durch eine Reihe von albernen und kitschigen Sequenzen, die in einem Film wie diesem wahrscheinlich nicht vermieden werden konnten, beeinträchtigt wird. Die besten Momente waren eine ziemlich lustige Parodie auf Der Exorzist und ein himmlischer Cameo-Auftritt einer ungenannten Band. Kurzum, ein Film, der als durchschnittliches Movie genügt und den man nicht noch einmal sehen muss.

A really great premise which made a lot of actors finally look friendlier and more human to me, as they are basically playing themselves. Suddenly, however, there is a brutal apocalypse, which is a meaningless bullshit in all respects and the only thing keeping the movie afloat is a number of pretty brutal catchphrases of the individual actors, who put down and try to best each other. I like the fact that the actors were themselves and that several times they openly made fun of themselves. What I don’t like was that some jokes were pretty unnecessary and over the line. At times I laughed a lot, just to stop laughing afterwards and wait for another catchphrase that would make me happy again. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg came up with a great idea and a lot of the actors convinced me that they are a great group of friends who can make you laugh and that I should definitely reckon with them for the future of America.

Smarter than most viewers are willing to admit. Rogen's humor goes over the edge many times, but who can be mad when it's done in such a self-deprecating and ironic way. The studio execs must have freaked out at the test screening, which makes me wish Rogen and his crew all the more for the commercial success they've had overseas. Deservedly so, it’s probably the most sincere A-film to come out of the "dream factory" in years.

The comedy of the year so far. Incorrect and vulgar, but smart. Self-aware and meta, but not forced. Here applies that the more you know (about the actors and the roles they usually play in their movies), the more you will laugh, as long as you are not a bore. But then, not everyone handles scatological and incorrect humour with the grace of Seth Rogen :)
