What should have been just another night on the job turns into a desperate fight for survival for three friends when the inmates of a high security asylum break free from their cells.
Rock musicians George, Max and Ricky work in the kitchen at the local asylum to make ends meet - the pay is good and they're at minimal risk, having no direct contact with the inmates. One night, just before dinner time, a storm shuts down the security system and the doors to all the cells open, letting the lunatics loose. Outnumbered and almost defenseless in the dark, the trio must find a way to survive until help arrives. A nerve-shattering thriller, Asylum Blackout is a terrifying plunge into darkness where the things that go bump in the night become a very real threat.

It’s okay to watch once. Well made, atmospheric, the corridors of a mental hospital have their charm and the psychopaths in the end are really good. I’m not jumping in joy, but I’m sure there are people who will be very satisfied with this film.

Das Thema eines Blackouts in der Umgebung einer Klapsmühle ist ein solider Boden für einen Horror-Thriller, besonders wenn sich der talentierte Drehbuchautor S. Craig Zahler daran arbeitet. Leider hatte er anscheinend nicht das letzte Wort am Drehbuch oder hat in diesem Film bisher nur seinen Stil geübt, denn es ist ziemlich unvollendet und am Ende ziemlich chaotisch, ohne interessante Charaktere und Dialoge, was normalerweise Zahlers Stärke ist. Es hätte viel besser ausgehen können.
