Bestselling horror novelist Christopher Roth (Joaquim De Almeida) feels in need of a change, the gruesome ideas in his novels are starting to take over his dreams and have him asking the question: 'How long before I become one of the insane killers I write about?' In need of a break, he and his wife Catherine head off to a remote house in Umbria, Italy. Roth starts work on a new romantic novel and all seems to be going well but it's not long before this idyllic world is shattered. A young couple is brutally murdered in the woods near the Roths' rented house, and Catherine has disappeared. A letter from the killer is on Christopher's table, accompanied by a horrific photo ... and here begins the Roths' worst nightmare. A nightmare whose violence is greater than anything Christopher had ever envisioned. (High Fliers Films)

Englisch A very pleasant surprise. Christopher Roth is a mix between psycho thriller and Giallo (due mainly to setting the plot in the Italian countryside and the looks of the killer) that in the final half hour dives almost into the hixploitation sub-genre. And that last half hour has quite some pace, something I wasn’t expecting after the slow start, and I liked it more as a result. Technically, the film is very good; the murder scenes are awesome (especially the one in the bathroom), I’ve always had a weakness of Southern European locations, there’s plenty of tension and blood… I can’t complain. A very likeable film in every sense, although the theme of creating a monster in real vs on paper didn’t feel as sophisticated as I think the creators believed. 3+ ()
