Fred (Colm Meaney) ist durch die Maschen des sozialen Netzes gerutscht. Nun lebt der Rentner in seinem Auto direkt am Strand Irlands. Ohne festen Wohnsitz erhält er keine Sozialunterstützung, die er jedoch benötigen würde, um überhaupt eine Wohnung mieten zu können. Während Fred mit der Situation umzugehen versucht, begegnet ihm der junge Junkie Cathal (Colin Morgan), der ins benachbarte Auto einzieht und das Leben des Rentners gehörig auf den Kopf stellt. Zwischen den ungleichen Nachbarn entwickelt sich allmählich eine Freundschaft, denn beide eröffnen einander neue Sichtweisen auf das Leben. Von Cathal ermutigt, spricht Fred sogar die einsame Musiklehrerin Julianna (Milka Ahlroth) an und für einen Moment scheint sich sein Leben endlich zum Besseren zu wenden. Allerdings verlässt ihn die Zuversicht angesichts Cathals Abhängigkeit. (Dualfilm Verleih)

I figured this wasn't going to be a film that would interest me, but it's exactly the kind of enjoyable little film where it's all about the characters and their fates, whether good or bad, and it works very well. Colm Meaney shows us that he is a very capable actor and carries the plot through to the end, even if you wonder if he is actually the main character.

The Irish once again gave me a brutal thrashing full of reality and black humor. I often think that even if those people were at death’s door, they would come up with some catchphrase that would immediately ruin the atmosphere. Parked is a beautiful yet sad film. That happens when you watch a great realistic drama full of wonderful acting performances and unique characteristics of the given countries. Maybe that’s why I like watching European movies so much.
