1863 herrscht Bürgerkrieg in Nordamerika. Tief im Feindesland versucht der Nordstaatler Colonel Marlowe mit seinem Regiment dem Feind die Versorgungswege abzuschneiden: Sie zerstören Brücken und Bahngleise. Immer wieder kommt ihm dabei der Truppenarzt Kendall in die Quere. Und dann auch noch die schöne Farmerin Hannah. (TELE 5)

Considering that this is again a collaboration between John Ford and John Wayne, it's really a weak film that doesn't have much to say. It is quite long, which is another problem, it tries to have a lot of things happening, but none of what happens is really significantly interesting or captivating. From such a duo, you would expect more, especially with the presence of William Holden.
