On a weekend road trip, half of Emma`s friends go missing leaving her to wander a deserted village in search of them. But as she begins to uncover the town`s sordid past, she experiences horrifying visions and finds a series of drawings that illustrates the disappearance of her friends. It’s well made, which makes the failures in the script an even bigger shame. The Village of Shadows wants to be a complex horror story with a deep mythology, but unfortunately, it’s just nonsense played for effect. It would have been better to keep those mysterious events shrouded in secret than to explain them the way they did (the film has everything, from an ancient sect and a vengeful ghost, to immortality and a traitor in their own ranks).
