Farmers in the state of Maharashtra despair at the state of their crops, which are desperately in need of rain. Suicides abound among the distraught farmers. Kisna, father to a six-year-old boy, toils away in order to provide for his family, while his wife, convinced that he too wants to end his life, watches his every move for signs that he might kill himself… India is not alone in the grave state of its farming, for reasons that are not only climate-related, but the dramatic proportions it has taken on are depicted here without melodrama and with accuracy and lucidity.
