Übergroße, prähistorische Megapiranhas gelten bereits seit Millionen von Jahren als ausgestorben. Eine kleine Gruppe von ihnen hat jedoch in einem abgelegenen Nebenarm des Orinoco bis heute überlebt. Durch menschliche Eingriffe in die lokale Umwelt werden die Urzeitwesen aus ihrer Isolation befreit und begeben sich auf den Weg nach Florida – gerade rechtzeitig zum Höhepunkt der dortigen Touristen- und Badesaison. Ein Einsatzteam, welches unter anderem aus Special-Agent Jason Fitch (Paul Logan) und der Wissenschaftlerin Sarah Monroe (Tiffany) besteht, arbeitet mit Nachdruck daran, die Megapiranhas zurück nach Venezuela zu drängen. Aber schon bei der Grenzüberquerung geraten sie in Schwierigkeiten mit den dortigen Behörden. Als Agent Fitch feststellt, dass er hier mit diplomatischen Verhandlungen nicht ans Ziel kommt, beginnt zwischen ihm und der Militärtruppe um Oberst Antonio Diaz (David Labiosa) eine rasante Verfolgungsjagd durch den Dschungel. In der Zwischenzeit wachsen die mörderischen Fische stetig weiter und ihre Fressattacken hinterlassen immer verheerendere Schäden... (Best Entertainment)

I thought that nothing could surprise me anymore. I’ve seen giant octopuses, zombie water sprites, killer tomatoes, Teletubbies and the Turkish Star Wars, but never anything like this! Mega Piranha is truly exceptional, and this is not something I’m saying in the short term wonder of the latest shite I watched that’s still fresh in my memory; no, this is something truly unprecedented. I no longer think that Asylum are a bunch of incompetents, rather, they are creators that some day will be very famous among the fans of certain film subcultures and will enjoy cult status – thanks to stuff like Mega Piranha.

"Megapiranha" is simply a classic terrible film that you get when you want a B-movie from American production companies. The worst part is the fact that no one cares about what the monsters will look like anymore, it's just about having as many shots of actors who won't entertain you anyway. Watch the film "Megapiranha" at your own risk, or if you're a die-hard fan of the genre.
