Während ihres Aufenthaltes in einer Entzugsklinik, fängt der ehemalige Country-Star Kelly Canter (Gwyneth Paltrow) eine Affäre mit dem talentierten Songschreiber und Sänger Beau Hutton (Garrett Hedlund) an. Gemeinsam arbeiten sie an seiner Karriere und ihrem Comeback. Zusammen mit Kellys Manager und Ehemann James (Tim McGraw) gehen die beiden auf Tournee.
