Nach dem Schiffsunglück wird der Literaturkritiker Humphrey van Weyden durch den Schoner “Ghost” unter dem brutalen Kommando von Wolf Larsen gerettet. Larsen weigert sich, van Weyden an Land abzusetzen. Die Situation während der rauen Seefahrt eskaliert, als die schiffbrüchige Autorin Maud Brewster gerettet wird.
