Der Bewährungsbeamte Jack Mabry übt seinen Job seit vielen Jahren aus und hat jede Menge Erfahrung mit Häftlingen, die ihm etwas vormachen wollen. In Gerald „Stone" Creeson trifft er jedoch auf einen Verbrecher, der anders zu sein scheint als die üblichen Knastbrüder. Stone verwickelt Jack in persönliche Gespräche und schafft es, eine seltsam vertraute Beziehung zu ihm aufzubauen. Damit nicht genug, setzt er seine bildschöne Frau Lucetta auf Mabry an. Sie soll den Gutachter dazu bringen, sich für eine vorzeitige Entlassung ihres Mannes auszusprechen - und zwar mit allen Mitteln. (ARD)

I didn’t expect such a travesty. The cast is decent, unfortunately only on the poster. Otherwise, it's average, or rather, below average (Milla Jovovich). A film without energy, without emotions, without any significant scenes. Robert "sit the fuck down" De Niro hasn't been lucky with good projects lately. John Curran is not a good filmmaker.

I understand what Stone is trying to do, but the problem is that this is not what a psychological drama should be. The script and direction are both helpless, and the result is only one star for Edward Norton's traditionally excellent performance. Otherwise, major talent is required to kill a cast and a promising concept like this. Overall impression: 25%.

I’m mainly sorry for the criminally under-utilized cast. I mean, the topic of Stone isn’t bad at all, but the script doesn’t offer much and the director didn’t manage to give the movie anything apart from some pretty shots. And the ending was one big disappointment.
