Afghanistan ist von den andauernden Kämpfen ruiniert. Inmitten dieses Chaos versucht eine Truppe von US-Soldaten, eine strategisch günstig gelegene Straße zu erobern. Auf dem Weg dorthin entdecken die Soldaten eine verlassene Schlucht und darin eine geheimnisvolle Statue. Sie schenken ihr jedoch keinerlei besondere Beachtung und nutzen sie für ihre Schießübungen. Als die Statue dabei zerstört wird, setzen sie eine mysteriöse Kraft frei, die einen rachsüchtigen Krieg beginnt ... (kabel eins)

It’s as disappointing as Dead Birds. I’m sure there will be some good responses, but Turner’s style just doesn’t work on me. Nothing happens for a very long time and the atmosphere it builds collapses at every turn. When something finally does happen, it’s over so quickly that you don’t have time to realise what it was, leaving boredom to take back control. The Afghan desert setting is not the only thing this film has in common with last year’s The Objective, there’s actually a lot more than I was willing to admit while I watched it. And now I realise that even my unloved Dead Birds left me with a better impression than this one. Take away the jump-scares, the attractive setting and the good looking monsters, and you have Red Sands. Unfortunately.
