Welches übel ist das größte: Der starrende Zyklop? Der stinkende Riesenkrake? Oder das einbeinige Hüpfmonster? Falsch, es ist die unerträgliche Alltäglichkeit im Leben eines Superhelden. Denn die goldenen Zeiten der mutigen Krieger sind vorbei. Daisato, seines Zeichens Superheld in sechster Generation, muss sich um Sponsoren und eine gute TV-Quote mühen. „Der Große Japaner", so sein Kampfname, wird gemobbt und schikaniert – und geht, als ob nichts wäre, stoisch seiner Pflicht nach. The film "Dai-Nihonjin" is originally unoriginal, but that is exactly where its charm lies. It is a classic kaiju film, where the battle scenes are actually an arena. But it is also a personal drama, filmed on a camera like a reality show about one extraordinary person. This is such a wonderfully crazy film that I simply cannot do anything else but watch it with delight and rate it very highly. But you have to have the right mindset for this.

At first glance basically a pretty boring mockumentary, but if you imagine the 大日本人 [“Big Japan"] without the 人 [“Man"], it becomes a story about the Empire of Japan and immediately takes on a new dimension. Still, I believe it's a rather hard film to digest.
