Sturm in den Weiden

Zum Teufel, ich mag diese verrückte Geschichte vom dicken Mr. Toad. Vor allem vom visuellen Standpunkt aus - denn das Konzept ist weder zu märchenhaft, noch zu ernst... es ist einfach nur lächerlich cartoonhaft. Und das erinnert mich an die Poetik von "MPFC"... Der Humor ist schwächer, aber die "albernen" schauspielerischen Leistungen retten viel und machen das klassische britische Märchen zu einem ziemlich humorvollen und urkomischen Spektakel (nicht nur) für die Python positiv. Man sollte von dem Film keinen vollwertigen Python-Humor erwarten, aber er hat zweifelsohne seinen Charme. (27.07.2004)

With the rating of this film, there is a little problem... The last common film of Monty Pythons was The Meaning of Life and then the members went their separate ways and worked on their own projects. Frog's Adventures are exclusively Terry Jones' authorial project, who focused on literature for children and directing. Engaging other ex-Pythons, even in small roles, was an idea of the producer and was motivated solely by commercial interests. Therefore, it is not a Monty Python work and it makes no sense to compare this film with the group's creations. Visually, it is original, fast-paced, and unconventional, with several catchy songs, somewhat "quirky", as is usual with Jones and his colleagues. The target audience was children, although everyone with an unrestrained imagination will enjoy it. Overall impression is 80%. (10.05.2007)

If a large part of Monty Python decides to make a movie for children, I expect a masterpiece. And even though I'm not saying that I didn't laugh occasionally, Žabák (Frog) is unfortunately only a pure average, where occasional deadly lines alternate with awkwardness. And unfortunately not in the confused Python way. (13.05.2006)
