Die Brüder Reinhold und Günther Messner setzen sich als Kinder das Ziel, irgendwann den Nanga Parbat, den über 8000 Meter hohen nackten Berg im Himalaya, zu besteigen. Im Jahre 1970 ist es für die damals 25 und 23 Jahre alten Brüder dann soweit. Unter der Führung des Expetitionsleiters Dr. Karl Maria Herrligkoffer will eine Elite internationaler Bergsteiger den Gipfel erobern. Die Route führt über die legendäre Rupalwand, die höchste Steilwand der Erde. Trotz einer Schlechtwetterwarnung entscheidet sich Reinhold (Florian Stetter) den Gipfel alleine zu besteigen. Günther (Andreas Tobias), der weniger Erfahrung hat, folgt dem älteren Bruder. Doch er wird höhenkrank und mit dem Abstieg beginnt der Kampf ums Überleben. (Universum Film)
