Seit ihr Baum einem Holzfäller zum Opfer fiel, machen die drei Streifenhörnchen Alvin, Simon und Theodor die Großstadt unsicher und landen schließlich bei dem erfolglosen Songschreiber Dave. Der erkennt das Gesangstalent der drei und wittert seine letzte Chance auf Erfolg. Und tatsächlich stürmen sie schon bald die Charts, doch der neu gewonnene Ruhm stellt die Freundschaft der Streifenhörnchen auf eine harte Probe. (Super RTL)

Yes, I suffered. And unfortunately, there was no escape. It's a prototype of the American family spectacle designed for the broadest audience, hence the script is written and performed to match the taste of the typical mass viewer. If it had just stayed with the plush chipmunks, it would be somewhat kitschy, yet still tolerable as children's entertainment. However, the presence of busty actresses and sleek hunks clearly aimed at the adult accompaniment - who are presumed to have the taste and mental breadth of a five-year-old child - underscores the issues. This type of mass production is simply not for me. Overall impression: 15%.

Die neuen Filme liegen auf der gleichen Wellenlänge wie Yogi Bär und Die Schlümpfe. Die neue Generation von Kindern schert sich also einen Dreck um die alten Wurzeln und konsumiert gierig und zufrieden nur das, was heute in Mode ist. Nicht mehr und auch nicht weniger.

Even though I had problems with Jason Lee at the beginning, which is why I wanted to see this movie - and I still had that problem even during the second viewing - it always gets me in the end and I quite enjoy this singing trio. Plus, Cameron Richardson also played a role in it, and I've just liked her as an actress ever since I saw her in "House".
