Als der Autor Peter während der McCarthy-Ära verdächtigt wird, ein Kommunist zu sein, entzieht man ihm seinen Auftrag für ein neues Drehbuch. Entsetzt betrinkt sich Peter und baut einen Unfall, bei dem er sein Gedächtnis verliert. Als er daraufhin in einer Kleinstadt für einen vermissten Kriegshelden gehalten wird, beginnt er dort ein neues Leben - bis eines Tages die Wahrheit ans Licht kommt. (TNT Film)
