1947, Britisch-Ostafrika. Eine Gruppe von Archäologen entdeckt eine auffällig gut erhaltene byzantinische Kirche, die reich mit Mosaiken verziert ist. Die Bilder portraitieren auf eindringliche Weise die Schlacht zwischen Erzengel Michael und Luzifer. Imposante Statuen bewachen still die Pforten des Gotteshauses. "Under the Dominion of Evil" is a film that has a building atmosphere and there are moments that can please the soul of a horror viewer, but overall, it's too straightforward and it tries too hard to create a stepping stone for "The Exorcist". Stellan saves it with his acting and personality, but this film still doesn't reach beyond average. It lacks the necessary intensity and strength of characters.
