Joe Selfridge, a magician, has a new trick to present: his own decapitation, something of unparalleled spectacular even by international standards. Olga is his aide in the piece. She is seriously ill and dies shortly. Before her death, she asks Joe to take good care of Vera, her younger sister living in Warsaw. Joe visits the girl, who is the spitting image of her dead sister. He uses Vera in the trick as his partner. In a Budapest hotel, baron Vajk recognises the girl. He believes her to be Olga, his one-time love, with whom he broke several years ago. The magician does his best to prevent their relationship from becoming a serious emotional involvement. Enigmatic situations ensue but, in the end, the magician decides not to prevent the happiness of the young couple. (Verleiher-Text)
