The outbreak of war ends the love of Torda Mária and Tibold Endre. Mária is still expecting the return of Endre, father of Anna, her daughter, who was born while her father was away. The war is long over. A few decades elapse, and a letter is accidentally discovered in a post office building now under reconstruction. The letter, in which Endre calls Mária to the railway station to meet him before his departure to the front, is addressed to Torda Mária, who has been waiting for this letter for a long, long time now. She is at the station, waiting for Endre, who fails to turn up. She is utterly despaired and faints on the spot. She is taken to hospital. Anna, to help her mother recover, goes in search of Tibold Endre, now a famous writer known as Tatár András. The lovers, separated due to a fatal misunderstanding, are thus reunited. (Verleiher-Text)
