In the story which takes place at the beginning of the century Bauer Károly pupil experiences a series of everyday failures during twenty four hours in the family, on the street and at school. He wakes up late, is late from school, and as he has not prepared himself, finds himself in a pairful situation during the test at the blackboard, and is then subjected to a campaign of jokes by his class-mates. On his way home, he sells his school-books in order to buy candy and a magnetit, and is beaten and penalised by his father. In his imagination and dreams he gets involved in unbelievable yet seemingly real adventures as a genius, war lord, national hero, prime minister, prince, world champion, inventor, artist.
