In einem kleinen englischen Hotel trifft eine Gruppe zutiefst unterschiedlicher Menschen aufeinander. Als sich herausstellt, dass einer der Gäste wegen sexueller Belästigung vor Gericht stand, verlangt eine herrschsüchtige ältere Dame, dass dieser Mann das Hotel verlassen soll – obwohl ihre schüchterne Tochter in ihn verliebt ist. Nur ein freigeistiger Schriftsteller, eine schrullige alte Frau und die Hotelbesitzerin stellen sich hinter den Beschuldigten. A smart depiction of human mistrustfulness, the automatic creation of prejudices and the avoidance of difficult life obligations. A group of interesting characters in a closed space confronting themselves and their pasts, and though they are quite numerous by the end, the result is still strong and warming. The excellent cast lead by David Niven and the charming Rita Hayworth helps a lot, of course. Overall, though, a good rendition of theatrical material and the big screen doesn’t spoil its atmosphere and ideas. 80%
