Kvartett

Unexpectedly, a well-dressed man turns up at the housing estate flat of a retired couple. The past is recalled: back in 1957 Netto, a young worker from the Kőbánya district, acting as a state police guard, saved Dugó, then a student of architecture, from imprisonment and maybe from being hanged, by telling him in time to run away. The student left the country, graduated in America, got married, had children and got divorced. After retiring he recognised how restless and pointless his life had been in a world ruled by money. He came home to take up his one-time saviour's family as if it were his own. Netto still sticks to the bygone world of socialism, he is lonely and rejective, his wife and his daughter are egotistic, greedy and avaricious. On leaving, the man feels desolate and doomed to loneliness. (Budapest Film)
