Im Ghetto von Prag hat Rabbi Löw einen künstlichen Menschen, den Golem, erschaffen und mit Hilfe eines beschworenen Geistes zum Leben erweckt. Löws Famulus ist in Mirjam, die Tochter des Rabbi, verliebt, hat aber in Junker Florian einen erfolgreichen Nebenbuhler. Nachdem Golem, vom eifersüchtigen Famulus angestiftet, Florian ermordet hat, reagiert er zunehmend widerwillig auf die Befehle seines Herren und wird zu Bedrohung. (Verleiher-Text)
