Sharksploitation ist ein sehr gelungener und überraschend vielschichtiger Dokumentarfilm, in dem das Thema der Ausbeutung von Haien auf mehreren Ebenen behandelt wird, sei es auf der filmischen, mythischen oder realen Ebene. Es ist gleichzeitig auch eine sehr unterhaltsame Zusammenstellung von Ausschnitten aus verschiedenen Hai-Filmen, sei es relativ hochwertige oder objektiv absolut schreckliche, die Ihnen viele Anregungen für Filme geben können, die zurecht oder zu Unrecht in Vergessenheit geraten sind, die Sie nach dem Anschauen dieses Dokumentarfilms sehen möchten. Despite the subject matter and the title, Sharksploitation is a very serious documentary about the depiction of sharks in the history of cinema from the 1930s to the present day, as well as about sharks in general and how films have negatively shape the image of sharks in society. The film offers very nicely and entertainingly composed mix of talking heads (ranging from filmmakers to experts in marine zoology) and clips from every possible film with sharks, naturally including the biggest trash flicks (though rather towards the end). Plus a heap of little-known stories from the film industry and debunking of the biggest myths about sharks.
