Riddick - Chroniken eines Kriegers

Ich kann mich des Eindrucks nicht erwehren, dass sowohl Twohy als auch die Autoren (vor allem letztere) von einer Menge Geld besessen waren. Riddick – Chroniken eines Kriegers ist ein Film, der von dem Wunsch erfüllt ist, eine Star-Wars-Mythologie zu schaffen, aber alles, was übrig bleibt, ist billige Effekthascherei und eine verdammt dünne und abgenutzte Idee mit Weltzerstörern, angeführt von einem sehr schlecht gespielten "Lord Leader". David N. Twohy kann die Regieinvention von Pitch Black - Planet der Finsternis nicht durchhalten und schwelgt buchstäblich in visueller Völlerei. Der Film ist zuweilen fast epileptisch undurchsichtig und verworren. Einige der Dialoge gehen weit über die Dummheit von B-Movies hinaus, an die der erste Riddick nicht einmal annähernd heranreichte. Die Atmosphäre ist, sagen wir, kühl akademisch, die Spannung nicht sehr stark. Trotzdem kann man sich den Film ansehen. Er läuft mit Qualitätsdiesel. Der neue amerikanische Held mag nicht mehr die große moralische Strenge besitzen (das Drehbuch gab ihm nicht die Gelegenheit dazu), aber er ist immer noch knallhart und hat den typischen scharfen Humor. Am besten läuft es auf dem Planeten Crematoria, wo man sich fast fragt, warum man nicht einfach bei dieser fantasievollen Variante von Pitch Black - Planet der Finsternis geblieben ist. Nachdem man sich jedoch durch den ganzen Schwachsinn und die fehlende Originalität durchgebissen hat, ist die wichtigste "epische" Linie von Riddick - Chroniken eines Kriegers ganz anständig und leicht anzusehen. Verglichen mit dem ersten Abenteuer von Riddick ist dies jedoch nur ein "fast erfolgreicher" Versuch. Was ich ihm nicht verzeihen kann, ist, dass Riddick wahrscheinlich immer "der Mann auf dem Thron" bleiben wird. Handschellen standen ihm besser... (13.10.2006)

Die High-Budget-Produktion bewältigt David Twohy ausgezeichnet – die visuelle Seite des Films ist atemberaubend, die Kamera bewegt sich sehr schön und die Komposition ist bis ins Detail ausgefeilt. Das Geld ist im Film zu sehen. Schlimmer sieht es mit den Figuren und mit der Geschichte aus, deren simpler und klischeehafter Charakter eher einen Vergleich mit Filmen wie Soldier als Pitch Black - Planet der Finsternis aufzwingt. I have only seen the first 13 minutes so far of Pitch Black, the film that The Chronicles of Riddick emerged from, after which I had to retreat to a small room for a long time due to certain urgent reasons, where everyone goes alone... Nevertheless, the beginning confirmed my belief that it was a typical B-movie with a very low budget. Thanks to its commercial success, however, the production studio decided to pour in some dollars and planned to shoot several sequels. However, the reception of The Chronicles of Riddick by the fans was very cold and the film became a painful flop, which probably meant the end for any potential future installments. The budget is noticeable in the film, the special effects shots are comparable to successful sci-fi films of recent years, the colors are compositionally coordinated, and Vin Diesel delivers his rough catchphrases, but... It is filmed without personal passion, the script is uneven, the characters are mostly flat and their potential is wasted. Moreover, purely personally, I am not fond of these fantasies with pompous mythology that disguise themselves as sci-fi. Overall impression: 50%. (31.12.2007)

Excellent Diesel, some decent ideas and a few solid scenes. Against that, an obvious attempt at a grand Star Wars-style saga, which the filmmakers failed badly. Especially the attempts to create a mythology of the universe are at times downright embarrassing; they unnecessarily relegate the film to the rank of guilty pleasure. (07.08.2004)

Instead of the lightness of Pitch Black, there is a heavy pompous spectacle without a shred of vision. I wouldn't have minded the inspiration from Star Wars or Dune if they had at least worked a little more on the script. Some of the lines that came out of the actors' mouths were ear-splitting. I have nothing against the mythology, but Twohy's is pretty uninteresting, if he'd thrown it out (subversion and other such kidz) and just left Riddick and his escapades in the galaxy, he would have done better. It’s a real shame that Twohy was unable to keep the level of Pitch Black. There is power in simplicity. I doubt there will be a third installment, worldwide box office returns were very poor and the film didn't even half pay for itself. (19.01.2005)
