A reconstruction of the life of Norio Narayama who committed four murders at the age of nineteen attempts to justify of his carelessness by the society of the time and the poor social background of his family. This retrospectively structured film represents the climax of the first half of Shindô's creative path characterised by humanistic interest in social subjects. (Summer Film School)
