Director and screenwriter Kaneto Shindô celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his production company with this conceptually inventive portrait of Taiji Tonoyama. This peculiar actor, despite being acknowledged by a number of directors, never considered himself anything more than a supporting actor; he was famed among his colleagues for his drinking binges and cool, simple attitude towards all the joys and pleasures of life.
