One morning, the caretaker of the student hostel of the University of Horticulture finds Citrom Flóra and Bohus Tamás, by the purest accident, in one bed together. Both are dismissed from university. During the appealing procedures they fall in love with each other. They are rehabilitated and given a common, separate room in the hostel. Flóra awakens the attention of the Party and is soon elected its representative. While she becomes actively involved in public life, he makes professional progress. Their lives develop along different lines, both get married, then disillusioned. They look for each other and cannot forget each other.
