Der Donauschiffer

The film is based on an adventure novel by Jules Verne and goes back to the last century. Borus Demeter wins the angling competition of the Danube League. He bets that he would travel along the whole river of Danube by boat and earn his living only by the fish he catches on his journey. Soon, as he leaves, people start suspecting him to be Serghei Ladko accused of a series of murders and robberies committed recently along the Danube. He is accompanied by a detective in disguise, Karl J„ger, to keep an eye on him on his journey. Borus helps the Bulgarian revolutionaries, but he is captured by his rival, Striga, who loots under the name of Ladko. Borus manages to escape and makes an alliance with the detective against the criminal and his gang. (Verleiher-Text)
