Um dem Wassermangel auf seinem Planeten entgegen zu wirken, landet Thomas Jerome Newton auf der Erde. Mit Hilfe bahnbrechender Patente baut er ein Wirtschaftsimperium auf, mit dessen Finanzkraft er das Wasser zu seinem Planeten transportieren will. Durch seine perfektionierte Intelligenz kann er sowohl telepathische als auch empathische Einblicke erhalten und so seine gewonnene Macht optimal anwenden. Doch sein Erfolg wird vom Neid der Konkurrenz begleitet, wodurch der außerirdische Bewohner zunehmend Probleme bekommt. Als sich Newton auch noch in die Kleinstadtbewohnerin Mary-Lou verliebt, scheint das Leben auf der Erde außer Kontrolle zu geraten. (KinoweltTV)

I know that this film has a lot to say, whether it's through the performances, the overall concept of the film, or the story, but I simply didn't connect with it and it rather repelled me than tried to win me over. This is, to some extent, good for the film, but I just couldn't like it and I rather endured it till the end.
