Ernest hat schon immer davon geträumt, einmal ein großer Basketballer zu werden. Aus Mitleid nehmen seine Freunde ihn trotz seiner sportlichen Unfähigkeit in ihre Mannschaft auf, und auch der Erzengel des Basketball scheint Mitleid mit Ernest zu haben, denn er schenkt ihm ein paar Turnschuhe, mit deren Hilfe er sein Team von eimem Sieg zum nächsten führt. Here, Ernest is too repetitive and Jim Varney is doing basically the same thing he did in the film set in the school. On one hand, he’s a goofball who messes everything up, but then suddenly he’s a great basketball player whose fame goes to his head. It's all about the pretense and the contrast between stupidity and perfection, where in the end, stupidity wins because it's beautifully simple.
