Linkin Park: Frat Party at the Pankake Festival (2001) (Musikvideo)

Englisch The first Linkin Park DVD to come out and I give it almost full marks. It is a complete anthology of all music videos to the singles from the album “Hybrid Theory" + a bonus video to the song “Points of Authority". The DVD also contains chapters describing various periods, such as when they were making their debut album, its subsequent promotion, album tour and also their plans to the future. In short excerpts from the tour you can see that Linkin Park is a great group of guys and some of their antics will make you laugh (the collapsing table, throwing wet toilet roll onto a bus without a roof in London etc.). This DVD worked really well, it’s worth having at home (if you like this band at least a little).

Mad Max 2 - Der Vollstrecker (1981)

Englisch A perfect action sci-fi just how I like them. The prolog is amazing (it beats most that you might see these days), a summary of all the important events in part one along with some glimpses of wars that caused the final ruin of civilization as we know it. Straight afterwards, we are treated to a great car chase with breathtaking stunts. We get to meet Max, who is looking for gas (like everybody else). He’s lucky. There’s a colony nearby with its own oil well. But nothing is for free...

Ohne Ausweg (1993)

Englisch A classic, average Van Damme flick. It’s nothing to write home about, but in its time it held its own. Today, however, things aren’t so good for Jean-Claude.

Zahnstocher-Johnny (1991) booo!

Englisch I didn’t finish it. I know, but I just couldn't bear it. Terrible. Awful. I'm sure there are worse movies, but I don't remember any.

Xena - Die Kriegerprinzessin (1995) (Serie)

Englisch I have to give this an on-average score, because some episodes in season one earned the full 5 stars. On the other hand, some of the episodes in the last seasons (how many were there in the end?) deserved somewhere around -2. They were just awful. Very long ago, Xena and Hercules formed an integral part of my day and I remember those days very fondly. Those were the days. Tears were welling in my eyes writing this review. Sniff.

The Tuxedo - Gefahr im Anzug (2002)

Englisch The idea wasn’t all together bad (I’d like a suit like that too) and Jackie does what he can to save the movie, but this movie just can’t be saved. A confused story, a bad bad guy, a really weird ending, computer effects etc. etc. I doubt that this movie would ever have been filmed without Jackie. Brings tears to your eyes. I like Jackie, and he doesn’t deserve this.

Heat (1995)

Englisch Michael Mann wrote and directed something I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. He showed us precisely the line separating good and evil and the entire movie balances on that thin line. It isn’t clear for a long time who is good. Is anybody? Or is everybody good in their own way? Al Pacino certainly doesn’t come across as a positive hero and the same goes for De Niro. Even so, you find yourself crossing your fingers for them and the ending is incredibly nerve racking. Plus the action and mainly the big shootout is so wonderfully raw that your eyes are glued to the screen. If he manages to pull off something like it with Miami Vice, it’ll be Christmas in the summertime for me.

Minority Report (2002)

Englisch An excellent sci-fi crime movie that shows that Steven Spielberg is in better form than ever and Tom Cruise likewise. Breathtaking action scenes wrapped up in a story that makes you think about and follow the unraveling story with bated breath. The action scenes are absolutely top-notch. The part where John Anderton is being followed in the car factory is one of the best scenes ever to emerge in this genre. And of course Spielberg’s typical detachedness and gentle irony in places bordering on black humor. The vision of the year 2054 on one hand is captivating and on the other both desolate and terrifying. The gradual loss of freedom, commercials that address passers-by using their names, eye scanners at every step. Minority Report is a masterpiece with an amazing visual side (Kaminski is a genius), great music (Williams), brilliant directing (Spielberg) and excellent acting performances (Cruise, Sydow, Farrell). The only thing that I might fault Minority Report for is the last five minutes when the story fizzles out and slowly crawls toward the credits. 9/10

The Green Mile (1999)

Englisch Stephen King is a genius. Frank Darabont is a genius. And whenever these two get together a perfect work of art comes to life that remains indelibly in the souls of those who see it. Similarly to The Shawshank Redemption, the story takes place in prison, more precisely in The Green Mile where those who were sentenced to death await execution. At the beginning of the story we meet old Paul Edgecombe who remembers the days of his youth and one of the prisoners. A person who had a wonderful gift. John Coffey (like coffee but spelled differently). And we become witnesses to one of the most touching story of all times.

The Weather Man (2005)

Englisch A story of person who is trying to become what we all want to be. More successful, better and so on. The snippets of the ordinary life of Dave Spritz show the everyday problems which most of us know and everybody will find something that applies to them. Cage gave an excellent acting performance, as did Michael Caine. His “daddy" is just perfect. The Weather Man is a pleasant and a slightly untraditional comedy that entertains you but also makes you think about the hardship of our lives. By the way, have you noticed that this is the second movie with Cage in a short space of time where the hero is the narrator himself?
