Twilight - Biss zum Morgengrauen (2008)

Englisch CONTAINS SPOILERS. So this was a really really sweet and sticky soft drink, and I choked (laughing) a few times while sucking on it. But the whole thing is so beautifully naive, intoxicating, calculated, and even watchable in places (besides, the baseball was pretty good) that not giving it the 3 stars would be a sin comparable to Edward drinking human blood:))) But as a perfectly managed business product it obviously works perfectly, which is not surprising. What more do girls between the ages of 14 and 16 need than a homo... sorry, metrosexual idol (and a vampire one at that), a "little" naivety and, above all, the great fatal love between vampire and human familiar from Buffy or True Blood:))) I resisted for a long time (over 2 years), but finally I "succumbed" and invested 15 minutes of time in Twilight to download and 2 hours to watch.)) I have to say that The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (where I am curious about David Slade's work, despite the criticism) will follow, so the vampire phenomenon of the new millennium has already consumed me.)

A Serious Man (2009)

Englisch I don't think I would wish for any truly serious person to live in such a panopticon. :)) Once again, the Coen brothers brilliantly play out a sometimes almost absurd game in which they manage to incorporate a very diverse range of characters in an excellent way. At times it really struck me as very cynical (to the point of feeling sorry for Larry), but we're pretty much used to that from the Coens. Craft-wise, there is nothing to complain about (the scene with the teeth and the message – it made my jaw drop:))) – it's stylish, fresh, new, sophisticated, it gradates exactly where it's supposed to, and most importantly – it's still "playful" and personal. I'm always glad for a film that goes against the current and that, though it may not be for everyone, everyone can find at least "their own thing" in it. I'm far from finished with the brothers' work, but at this point I rank A Serious Man really high, somewhere bordering on Fargo and just ahead of The Big Lebowski.)

Chloe (2009)

Englisch A gripping psychological drama with thriller elements, in which Amanda Seyfried slowly (but surely) emerges from the shadow of "that girl from Mamma Mia" and proves that she is capable of playing a more complex character quite adequately. My beloved Julianne Moore didn't disappoint either, Liam Neeson standard. My first ever encounter with Atom Egoyan. 70-75%

Wolfman (2010)

Englisch All the "finishing" elements were just right. But the creating ones honestly weren't worth much. Specifically, Johnston's "feeling" or the script drowning in grey average to below average... Tim Burton, with his sense of imagination and ability to create a good atmosphere, would have been a much better choice... Average, average, and again average...

Public Enemies (2009)

Englisch Actually, my first Mann, which I watched calmly to the end (and which I mainly wanted to watch to the end :)) The use of digital, the slow-motion shots, the great combination of period music and modern soundtrack + as always the excellent Johnny Depp in the lead role – all this makes Public Enemies an excellent, imaginatively made gangster film that lacks little for a maximum rating – in fact, I don't even know what. :)) But it simply not up to a pure 5 stars like Ridley's American Gangster. 80-85%

Predators (2010)

Englisch It is very clear that Roberto as a producer really took care (from the cast, to the director, to the soundtrack, etc.). I have to agree that the first half is more mysterious, more suspenseful, and much more atmospheric; the second half lags a bit compared to the first, but still the result is great. Seeing it in the cinema is a must! :)))

My Summer of Love (2004)

Englisch An excellent drama with very good leads. The whole "backwoods" atmosphere is also strangely appealing and a great backdrop for the story itself. The musical accompaniment fits exactly, so that My Summer of Love can be called a charming, independent and well made film. 85%

Layer Cake (2004)

Englisch Having seen Stardust (and been captivated by it) and most recently Kick-Ass (which captivated me even more), I decided to give Matthew Vaughn's work a go and got his first feature film to take home as well. Layer Cake is certainly a well made gangster flick with the more than good Daniel Craig in the lead role, and while it doesn't quite achieve the same "grit" as, say, Snatch, it comes across as wholesome and likeable and provides what it should in terms of genre. 80%

Caché - Versteckt (2005)

Englisch Interesting, academic?!, distinctive, and "cleanly" shot. Even if I wasn't left with the "right" unsettling feeling after watching it, as with other Haneke films, it's still a rather above-average work compared to the vast majority of other productions, and definitely won't leave you unmoved.

Brothers (2009)

Englisch Well chosen actors, catchy musical theme, emotions, emotions, and more emotions... But it's definitely worth watching – at least for the aforementioned acting trio and, just for the record, Natalie Portman looks really damn pretty :))
