René Clemént (1913–1996) was a French screenwriter and director, though he originally studied architecture. He wowed audiences in Cannes with his feature film debut The Battle of the Rails (La Bataille du rail, 1946). His audience-winning and festival-awarded work includes the Oscar-winning dramas The Walls of Malapaga (Le Mura di Malapaga, 1949) and Forbidden Games (Jeux interdits, 1952) and the thrillers Purple Noon (Plein soleil, 1960), Joy House (Les Félins,… (mehr)
