Biografie

Gerd Nefzer was born in 1965 in Schwäbisch Hall, Baden Württemberg, Germany. He graduated as an agricultural engineer. In 1987, Nefzer started to work at the company of his father-in-law, which was his first contact with the film business (armorer and picture vehicle tech).

In 1991, he worked for the first time as a special effects technician in Vienna, on “Strauss Dynastie.” The international breakthrough for the company came in 2000 with “Enemy at the Gates” at Studio Babelsberg. His first film as an SFX supervisor was “Resident Evil” in 2001.

Nefzer is currently working as one of the CEOs of the family business, Nefzer Special Effects GmbH. After numerous international movies like “Inglorious Basterds,” “Hunger Games” and “Captain America,” and working with directors like Steven Spielberg and producers like Bernd Eichinger, he won the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for “Blade Runner 2049.”
